Tropique, est une recherche basée sur l’expérience sensorielle qui joue de l’imbrication du matériel et de l’immatériel (mouvement, espace, temps, lumière, ondes sonores..). Ce qu’Étienne Rey appelle co-existence est une variante des monades de Leibniz qui lui permet d’introduire la question de la conscience. C’est la relation qui existe entre des éléments perçus et l’inscription de notre présence dans un même espace. Tropique aborde les questions de la cognition et de la perception dans un même espace liées à la vue, à l’audition, et au déplacement. En somme Tropique rend sensible l’environnement qui nous entoure, ce avec quoi nous vivons et nous interagissons, ce que l’artiste appelle des « phénomènes ondulatoires ».
TROPIQUE is an immersive installation which plunges the visitor into the heart of a clouded space, sculptured by light and sound.
An artificial world endowed with perceptive intelligence reacts to the movements of visitors, building a dynamic space, in which gestures and behavior disturb and enrich a pre-existent element. The word Tropique indicates an imaginary ground line where the sun reaches the top at a specific moment, in the winter and summer solstices.
The installation Tropique is the expression of the here and now, the hic and nunc in a precise position at a precise date and hour when a world in relation can be explored.
The installation Tropique proposes to the one who experiences the artwork which is plastic as well as scientific to make perceptible space structures and to seize the way our perceptive system works and, making it, our way of comprehending the world.
