Constance est une installation évolutive disposée sur une hauteur (sommet d’une montagne ou toit d’un bâtiment) visible de nuit depuis quelques kilomètres à la ronde ; trois axes lasers lumineux et puissants (rouge, vert et bleu) partent de façon parfaitement orthogonale d’un boîtier contenant le point d’origine de ces axes. Ce boîtier étant lui-même fixé à une monture équatoriale motorisée (utilisée en astronomie pour pointer longuement un objet sidéral fixe malgré le mouvement de la Terre), il se meut de manière imperceptible mais constante, annulant ainsi son propre entraînement par le mouvement terrestre. L’origine des trois axes demeure avec lui en un seul point de l’espace, comme en apesanteur. L’évolution de la course des lasers ainsi observée depuis le sol terrestre forme un arc de 90° en 6 heures ; mouvement illusoire puisqu’étant en réalité le mouvement propre de l’observateur.
« L’installation Constance appose à notre regard un indice spatial universel. A la contemplation de nos paysages immuables, Constance ajoute une annotation, un repère tridimensionnel utilisé lors de la représentation de volumes sur une surface plane. Les largeur, hauteur et profondeur X Y et Z matérialisent alors l’outil de spatialisation virtuelle dans l’espace réel du paysage, et substituent à l’ordre naturel des choses une nature ordonnée. Sa mesure prend en compte le mouvement de la Terre, qui est celui de l’observateur, et celui du paysage, pour l’annuler et garder en apesanteur ses axes orthogonaux. Fidèles à leur origine O arbitrairement posée là, sur les sommets que les mythes personnifient, X, Y et Z tentent la mesure du cosmos, de l’incommensurable. Le paysage observé accède à un nouveau romantisme relatif à la balise de l’espace, au temps et à notre mouvement propre, dont on peut alors apprécier précisément les effets, et la constance. »

Constance is an evolving installation placed on a hill (a mountain top or the roof of a building), which is visible at night from a distance of a few kilometers: three bright and powerful laser axes (red, green and blue) shine orthogonally from a box containing the origin of these axes points. The box is itself attached to a motorized equatorial frame (used in astronomy to point and hold a fixed sidereal object despite the movement of the Earth) and moves imperceptibly but steadily, thus canceling its own driving force by the Earth’s movement. The origin of the three axes remains with the box in one point in space, as if in weightlessness. The evolution of the lasers’ race observed from the Earth’s surface forms an arc of 90 ° in 6 hours, being in fact the illusory motion of the observer’s own movement.
« Constance brings a universal spatial index to what we see. The installation is like a comment brought to the observation of our eternal landscapes, a tridimensional landmark used when representing volumes on a flat surface. The width, height and depth X Y and Z then materialize the tool of virtual spatialization in the real space of the landscape, and replace the natural order of things in an orderly kind of nature. Its measurement takes into account the motion of the Earth, which is that of the observer, and that of the landscape in order to cancel it and keep its orthogonal axes weightless. True to their origin, O, arbitrarily placed there on the heights embodied by myths, X, Y and Z are trying to measure the cosmos, the immeasurable. The landscape thus observed reaches a new kind of romanticism of space, time and our of own movement, the constancy of which can be precisely enjoyed. »
